FEMINIST FUTURES FESTIVAL

02.11.–06.11.2022
FEMINIST FUTURES FESTIVAL
1 Festival – 3 Cities
Berlin – Warsaw – Salzburg

In the first week of November, Tanzfabrik Berlin welcomes the FEMINIST FUTURES FESTIVAL, one of the main events of the European project “apap – FEMINIST FUTURES”, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme.

Continuing in Warsaw and Salzburg in November, the festival takes a journey through different parts of Europe. Some of the participating artists will travel to all three cities, where they will present different pieces and participate in discursive formats, and so spin a common thread to link the three European cultural institutions and their respective editions of the FEMINIST FUTURES FESTIVAL.

This journey was imagined and conceptualized in cooperation with two other institutions, Instytut Sztuk Performatywnych of Warsaw and SZENE, Salzburg, and three artists supported by the European project: Milla Koistinen, Sergiu Matis and Agata Maszkiewicz. Together, we devised a programme that does not focus exclusively on feminist topics but follows feminist guidelines. Our underlying aim was to challenge conventions in the arts regarding institutional decision-making, hierarchies and power structures, payment terms and so on.

From this enriching cooperation, a three-part festival was born, which will kick off with the Berlin edition. The Berlin audience can expect five days of wide-ranging artistic positions presented from all over Europe. The festival will then take place in Warsaw 17-20 November and in Salzburg November 25 - December 2.

The Berlin edition of the festival will host performative works by Milla Koistinen, Ana Dubljevic, Sonya Lindfors and Sergiu Matis, an installation by Selma Selman and a film by Isabell Spengler, Antonia Baehr and Jule Flierl. Harun Morrison will travel to each of the festival’s stations with an artistic text to connect them.

In parallel, Tanzfabrik Berlin will also host the second part of the FEMINIST SCHOOL BERLIN to follow on from the first edition last September. The Feminist School aims to be a place of encounter between different concepts and lived experiences of feminism; a place where a variety of approaches to embodying, sharing, and practicing these principles can enter into a dialogue and inform and nurture one another.

Works by: Ana Dubljević, Milla Koistinen, Harun Morrison, Sonya Lindfors, Sergiu Matis, Selma Selman, Isabell Spengler, Antonia Baehr, Jule Flierl

Awareness-Guidelines

Tanzfabrik Berlin is a learning organisation run by a multi-disciplinary team from different backgrounds and cultures and with diverse abilities. We are continually working to break down existing barriers of any kind and help everyone to feel comfortable and safe in our spaces. For these reasons we kindly ask you to take care to read these guidelines:

↪ This is no place for discrimination or harassment of any kind. We say NO to racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, fatphobia, ableism, and all other forms of discrimination. Be mindful of the language you use.
↪ Don’t assume anyone’s gender, identity, sexuality, health, needs or backgrounds.
↪ Ask for consent regarding touch, physical and emotional closeness. Everyone has different boundaries.
↪ Everyone brings different experiences to this room. Try to listen and accept the diversity of these experiences.
↪ Take responsibility for yourself and for the space you create with others.
↪ Be aware of your intentions and take care of each other.
↪ Tanzfabrik Berlin welcomes you and wishes you an enjoyable time!

If you feel in any way molested or harassed, or if you experience any type of discrimination or other situations that make you feel uncomfortable, please approach the staff on site or write to MovingStructures@tanzfabrik-berlin.de . Feel also free to write to us if you have feedback - we have the ambition to dismantle existing hierarchies in our own contexts and to dissolve discriminatory structures, but we are still in a learning process ourselves.
