Contemporary dance means more than a combination of music and dance in space. It is diverse, multifaceted and a form of research which illuminates questions from unusual perspectives. Dance is increasingly taking on a role in society and calls for greater acceptance of differences. With the format Open Spaces, Tanzfabrik Berlin offers the opportunity three times per year to become acquainted with different artistic approaches and perspectives on dance, to discuss these or to participate in these creatively. The November edition will present work that has been developed in recent years. In the performances, the constructive potential of a martial arts technique will be investigated, an attempt will be made to sharpen the senses through meditation, the (voyeuristic) gaze of the audience and its expectations of the performers will be examined and a ritual dynamic will be kindled: how can a body deal with the consequences of aggression? How does our view of the world change our perspective? Can dance arise solely from itself despite external influences? These are only a few of the questions driving the artists who are part of Open Spaces #3 – 2016. Come and answer them with us!
