Workshop
with
Ian Garside
In the frame of Winter Tanz 2016/17
Drawing on various experiences from the worlds of theatre and dance, and particularly DV8’s verbatim dance theatre, this workshop will explore the moving voice in the context of dance and performance. There will be many playful group exercises along with explorations on a smaller scale, investing in both the personal and the ensemble experience. From physiological sound production within the body; to articulation, diction and projection from an actors perspective; to ensemble sound-scapes and rhythm work; to interpreting sensation and external impetus. Weaving through this multitude of approaches we are always dealing with the question of how our movements and our voices are connected - anatomically, physically and from the point of creative emotive potential.
Ian Garside (GB) discovered contemporary dance through classical drama. He earned a BA (Hons) from the Laban Center London and then continued studying at P.A.R.T.S. Brussels. Since 2010 he works as a performer for various companies and choreographers in Europe, i.a. Punchdrunk (Shanghai), Liquid Loft/Chris Haring (Vienna) and DV8 Physical Theater (London). Ian has taught in all sorts of situations for all levels of experience; both for dance lovers and professionals as well as children and seniors. As part of master classes, workshops and auditions for DV8, he taught i.a. at ImPulsTanz (Vienna), Institut del Teatre (Barcelona), Onassis Cultural Center (Athens) and Dancemakers (Toronto).
