In the frame of Open Spaces#1-2017

Tanzfabrik Berlin has continuously made it possible for emerging international artists from the apap network to work in Berlin within the framework of a residency.
Currently, there are two Polish artists, Ramona Nagabczynska and Karol Tyminski, in Berlin, who, after having recently completed their studies in a strictly classic form, now seek a confrontation with contempo-rary techniques. Ramona Nagabcynska's new work deals with science fiction, fantasy, transhumanism and other utopian impulses which channel current political anxieties and desires. Instead of turning back towards bodies as representation she explores the various levels of projection that a choreographic situation, as opposed to a literary situation, can hold. The radical choreographer Karol seeks a possible self beyond the boundaries mandated by culture.

Ramona Nagabczynska

Ramona Nagabczynska Born in Toronto, Canada in 1984 but began her dance education in the Warsaw State Ballet School after moving to Poland at the age of 11. She continued contemporary dance training at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt, Germany and at The Place in London. She also received a Bachelor’s degree in Culture Studies at the University of Social Sciences in Warsaw. As performer she worked with Fleur Darkin, 30 Bird Productions, Emma Martin, Rebecca Lazier, David Wampach, Ula Sickle, Sjoerd Vreugdenhil, Maria Stoklosa, Komuna Warszawa, Kaya Kołodziejczyk, Alex Baczynski-Jenkins, Marta Ziółek, Paulina Ołowska, Paweł Althamer and Clod Ensemble. Her choreographic work includes: Man's Best Friend (2009), Turao/Dziw (2010), New (Dis)Order (2012), Re//accumulation (2012), Dinge (2014), Actions to relate to Verbs (2015) and pURe. She is currently working on Shift. In 2013 Ramona co-­founded collective Centrum w Ruchu, which lead’s an important dance space in Warsaw. She is the recipient of many scholarships, amongst them the danceWEB scholarship in 2014. In that same year she became Aerowaves Priority Company with the piece New (Dis)Order .

Karol Tyminski

Karol Tymiński is a Polish choreographer/performer based in Berlin, co-founder of Center in Motion - Choreographers Workspace in Warsaw. He graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in year 2006 and previously from Warsaw Ballet School. Tymiński in his works deviates from formal aspects and focuses on the explorations of the human body on the very physical level, making it the source of the choreographic material. He aims to speak about human condition, reaching the emotional side of the performer by penetrating his physicality what was demonstrated in his earlier pieces such as „Doll House” (2011) „Beep” (2013) „Pussy” (2014) „Liminal” (2015) - commissioned by Icelandic Dance Company or „This is a musical” (2015).
