For the past three years, «Oblio» has been offering space in various locations to reflect on the concept of voids and omissions in historical and private memory. As a guest at Grüntaler 9, our new, temporary location in the Wedding neighborhood, Muna Mussie begins an individual stage of her embroidery project. The ritual performance installation meets the sound project “Curva Cieca Oblio ኩርቫ ዕውር ምርሳዕ”, which emerged from the collaboration with sound designer Massimo Carozzi for the Xong record series by Xing. Sound and action thus intertwine in a single act of weaving that seals the long process of Oblio.
«Oblio» sees itself as a temporary anti-monument that is dedicated to the reappropriation of public space. It was first shown at the 2021 Democracy Biennale in Turin as part of Memory Matters and is based on the observation that there is a strong need for shared, intimate spaces of lamentation in contemporary societies.
