Queer Bricoleur / Scenes with many Centers

Workshop with Andrew Champlin
In the frame of Summer/ing at Tanzfabrik

What are our tendencies toward clutter and collecting? How do techniques in our bodies inspire eclectic performance compositions? In this workshop, bricolage is developed as a tool to focus queer sensibilities as a choreographic practice. We visit a variety of concepts and sites, such as knowledge transfer, queer theory, flea markets, silly archives, and children’s books, to help us reflect on our personal and collective relationship to aesthetics and experience. We practice unearthing and sharing our techniques with each other before developing choreographic structures driven by our unique ways of knowing. Anticipating diverse histories and attention among participants, the workshop builds up an intimate creative process that flowers and decomposes and can be used as a template to craft provocative experiences for audiences.

Accessibility Note
The workshop will be held in spoken English. The focus of the work will be on collective process and there will be plenty of dialogues as well as active physical expressions and writing. Working methodologies for individual, partner and group participation will be organized amongst us. Ambient pop music will be played for durational choreographic scores. We will observe each other using a variety of sense-making faculties. We will look at texts and literature ranging from queer theory in a post-structuralist tradition, to novels, and extra-linguistic "texts" like children's books. Consensus will be sought for hands-on corrections and other touch-based work. Coordination and combination exercises and movement phrases to remember will be part of the workshop. "Set" movement material will be possible to adapt to meet the particular needs of those present. Information about our location & studio access in Kreuzberg, which unfortunately are not wheelchair accessible, can be found here.
