Richard Oberscheven

Richard Oberscheven is a dancer, choreographer, lecturer, Vinyl-DJ, and music producer. His artistic practice is rooted in a conscious body that allows for discovery, exploration, and confrontation in movement. His artistic work is based on improvisational concepts as well as real time composition of the body in relation to space, people, and music. In 2014 Richard received his Bachelor of Arts in Dance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt. After he worked for the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Tanzkompagnie Gießen and continued his artistic career inter- and nationally as a freelancer. His own works include ROTATIONAL DISTANCE II, Unfolding Process (2023), ROTATIONAL DISTANCE (2022), Körper an Körper (2019), As I would like (2019) and any directions (2015), which have been shown in Mannheim, Gallus Theater Frankfurt, Barnes Crossing Cologne and Stadttheater Gießen. In 2019 Richard received the Jury Award Best Performer at the SoloDuo Festival NRW with As I would like. Besides he collaborates with artist groups such as Tony Rizzi and the Bad Habits, Hennermans Horde and with choreographers Verena Kutschera and Cyrstal Schuettler. He is co-founder of the artists collective Kunstschaffende Frankfurt, with whom he has also participated in festivals such as Open House and Common Ground. As a lecturer, he teaches professional training and his movement practice such as for Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, Tanzfabrik Berlin, IGProfitraining Cologne and 4fürTanz Leipzig. Richard also produces electronic compositions for short-films, various projects and for his own work.
