Body-Mind Centering – We_You_I

Workshop with Ka Rustler
In the frame of WinterTanz 2024/25

In this workshop I invite you to immerse yourself in a deeply inspiring movement experience exploring the fascinating interplay between our body's own rhythms with movement and dance. Just as neurotransmitters like dopamine orchestrate a complex symphony within our brains, our bodies respond to a cascade of signals and messengers that influence our energy levels, our emotional and physical responses. Enquiring into these hormones, which resemble a living network, we witness them navigating our endocrine pathways, transitioning through organs and cells in various states—from crystalline clarity to fluid adaptability—balancing receptivity with expressive dynamism. We will explore how these dynamics influence our movement choices and skills, enhancing our expressive range and emotional depth. We engage and move into a rich tapestry of facilitated exercises, playful explorations, guided rituals and scores, insightful observations and meaningful exchanges. Participants will experience this work through gentle and genuine connection with others, balanced thoughtfully with solo time for introspection and reflection. This exploration will illuminate the potential for change, regeneration, and transformation within and around us.

Accessibility Note
The workshop will be held in German and/or English and body language. There will be partner work, but touch is never mandatory. If participants are comfortable with touch, exercises on different qualities of touch, body connections and movement impulses will be part of the work. Ka works in this workshop with clear personal responsibility and mindful self-awareness and awareness of others. At the heart of her practice lies the profound vulnerability inherent in Improvisation. Nurturing the nuanced skills and tender art of embracing and honor this vulnerability in ourselves and others breathes vitality into a movement journey that is both powerful and transformative. The physical intensity of the exercises, movements and dances can be adapted individually by the participants. If needed, a free workshop place for an accompanying assistant will be facilitated for participants with disabilities. Information about our location & studio access in Kreuzberg can be found here. We offer solispots (solidarity places) for people living in a financially precarious situation, including people from regions in crisis, BIPOC, trans*, queer, disabled people. For questions or more information, please contact Zoé Duflot at workshop@tanzfabrik-berlin.de

Ka Rustler

Ka Rustler has been researching and analyzing somatic practices and their embodiment in movement, choreography and therapy for over 35 years. She is a Body-Mind Centering® Practitioner and Teacher, co-chairwoman of the BMCAssociation and the Glia Association, second-generation pioneer of Contact Improvisation, member of the early collective Tanzfabrik Berlin and co-founder of the Authentic Movement Research Group Unwinding the Body. As a co-author of multifaceted productions, she performs with numerous artists and creates social and ecological contexts that are situated within a feminist understanding of embodied subjectivity. Ka teaches internationally, designs training curricula at private and state institutions and in her work combines methods and systems whose application and relevance interface performance, neuroscience and somatics in natural and urban environments. Living next to the forest, neighboring a farrowing brook, she is married, mother of two children, stewarding a permaculture garden with newts, violet carpenter bees as well as edible treasures and (potent smoothie) weeds.
