In the frame of Fold – Narratives & Transgressions
A body without a place sings, and through language, shapes reality. Can it address its trauma, inherited, the body itself as the medium of moving and moving through, or does it blow that trauma through other bodies instead?
In this solo of nigunim, embodied, trancelike Jewish songs of worship that usually incorporate bible verses or other classical texts, these lyrics will tap into the words of Jewish activists past - such as Rabbi Joshua Abram Heschel, who recalled feeling like his “legs were praying” as he walked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 - and present. A nigun is a song, but is related to nagan, a weapon.
The solo explores a joyful approach to spirit that is rooted in tikkun olam - repairing the world - in which body and voice carry a vision of queer, inclusive, activist Judaism into the future.

The performance will last about 50min and will take place in Uferstudio 5. The main language will be English. Four loudspeakers are set up from which different soundtracks come. There will be about 25 beanbags and also chairs.

David Bloom
David Bloom is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, father, filmmaker, bodyworker, pianist, and fermenting Jewish mystic. Graduated from the M.A. Choreography course at HZT Berlin, danceWEB scholarship in 2012. David teaches in many contexts, including HZT Berlin, Tanzquartier Vienna, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Human Architecture Lab in St. Petersburg, K3 in Hamburg, the Masters of Contemporary Dance Education in Frankfurt, the Rietveld Academy for Fine Arts & Design in Amsterdam, & the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna.
