Mixed Signals, New Language

Performance-Projekt with Victoria McConnell

How many times do we say one thing and mean another? How often do we think we understand another person only to discover we have been speaking two different languages all along? In this performance project we will play with meaning, we will toss ideas back and forth between our bodies and in conversations. Non-verbal communication can account for 65-70 percent of the meaning in a conversation, scientists tell us. And each one of us speaks a unique mixture of gestures, body language and spoken words. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a key to crack the mysterious code of another human, or simply to invent a new language? Alone and as a group, we will consider gestures personally and culturally and how they are interpreted. We will tell our personal histories through our postures, gestures, our movements and we will listen to each other. Through dance and notdance, we will move, sweat, weave an intuitive map of desire, vulnerability and the thirst to communicate.
