In the frame of Open Spaces/Sommer Tanz 2017
Accessing the body’s deep intelligence, we learn to intuit the body’s desires while developing a facile brain, releasing us from habitual patterns. We will work consciously along a continuum that encompasses a kinetic body state and neuro brain state. The kinetic enhances our emergent desires for movement and the neuro allows us to dance the brain and bypass the “Mind”. By mixing the kinetic and neuro states with Contact Improvisation, we will achieve clarity, speed, and precision allowing us to intentionally operate between flow and suspension.
People of diverse physicalities are very welcome and encouraged to attend. Unfortunately not accessible for wheelchair users.
Originally formed in 1994 in San Diego, Lower Left Performance Collective is dedicated to the spontaneous combustion inherent in the collaborative process. Choosing to rely on the combined artistic vitality of its members in both artistic and organizational aspects, Lower Left’s collective model and the resulting innovation and openness have become their trademark. Lower Left’s choreographic work deals with personal, social and political issues using original movement vocabulary that is created collaboratively as well as individually. Performance works range from technical, highly physical dances to complex theatrical multimedia dance plays. Performances travel across the spectrum of deliberation, from the highly predetermined to the spontaneously composed. Lower Left members live in three different time zones on two different continents. Margaret Paek - Appleton, WI, Nina Martin - Marfa and Fort Worth, TX, Leslie Scates - Houston, Texas ; Shelley Senter - New York; Andrew Wass and Kelly Dalrymple-Wass - Berlin.
