In BODY POSSESSIONS the focus lies on physical experiments, rituals and BDSM play to awaken different altered states of consciousness. Through the use of different tools, we will explore an atmosphere where the boundaries between ecstasy and exorcism, pleasure and pain, sickness and enlightenment, horror and humor blur into each other.
Danilo will support the dancers by giving a performative shape to the different Body Possessions in a collective and individual way, encouraging the use of diverse medias of expression, such as: dance, voice & text, mixed and/or installation formats are welcome as well.
BODY POSSESSIONS is part of Danilo André's current research entitled BODY HORROR. For Danilo, body horror serves as a tool for transformation and emancipation - in the belief that bodies can change on their own terms. Danilo is particularly interested in exploring the alternation between horror and humor in the body.
BODY POSSESSIONS can therefore be understood as a creative practice for self-induced altered states of consciousness.
Important Note
The Project will explore BDSM practices of dominance-submission and de-construction of power dynamics. From my past experience as a choreographer, I recommend an interest and personal desire to explore topics such as consent, shame, vulnerability and nudity within a safe space that we will create together.

In this class, we work with the amplification of breathing and gaze as the main tools to create dance and performance. We bring the body in motion, keeping in mind the concept of a body always in excess, monstrous, porous, endless, and open to mutating with the environment, melting beyond the limits of ‘human anatomy’. The dance work consists of manifesting in space the power of raw energy and the reverberance of the movement of the inner cores of the body: cellular breathing, fluids, heartbeats, and volume of breath.

Danilo Andrés
Danilo Andrés is a dancer/choreographer and visual artist based in Berlin. Danilo's work in visual, sound and performance art has always been interconnected, incorporating different media such as sculptural headdresses, costumes, photography and video. Since 2014, they have been working with various artistic institutions in Berlin, including the Akademie der Künste and the Neuköllner Oper, as well as collaborating as a dancer with other choreographers such as Minako Seki, Felix Ruckert and Okwui Okpokwasili. In 2023, Danilo presented the solo performance BICHO RARO as part of Tanztage Berlin. In addition, they create solo pieces that utilize their multidimensional skills as a visual artist, performer and choreographer to explore the development of the body in a queer context.
