The two-hour contact improvisation class will be equally divided into two complementary parts, each lasting about an hour.
The first part will guide the group through a warm-up designed to awaken and stimulate higher sensory awareness. Participants will interpret and embody a continuous flow of instructions. Specific principles, textures, images, and states will be gradually introduced and layered to enhance the availability and flexibility of both body and mind, preparing them for interaction with others. In the second part, the focus will shift from individual practice and self-discovery to partnering and more intricate group dynamics. By encouraging risk-taking, physical weight, and forces will be engaged to reach and surpass exhaustion, master endurance, and employ contact improvisation techniques.
Each of the four classes in August will center on one of the four elements: water, fire, air, and earth. Each element will serve as the inspiration for both the warm-up and the contact improvisation practice. Participants can attend classes individually or as a series of four to experience all the elements.
