During this performance project dancer and choreographer Rosalind Masson will accompany participants to experience a level of physicality connected to an element of their bodies which will (literally) create the biggest impact in time- the skeleton. Our skeletons and the mineral components of bone which outlast our lifetimes, describe a story which connects our lifetimes to the lifetimes of others and to other species. Our bones tell stories through their formation and evolution over epochs. They are connected to the Gothic and to the horror we feel in contemplating our own temporality. As a performance tool, when we connect to our skeleton, we connect to a deeper sense of time and are able to dance in a way which is grounded and resonates deeply to those witnessing. During the project, Rosalind will share choreographic material which comes from an exploration of the functionality of the skeleton in movement production and it’s relation to gravity's pull. The research will involve an element of mark making with charcoal as well as movement investigation and exploration of choreographic material through touch. Together we’ll explore and perform possible future choreographies or ‘uchorias’ every day, reflecting and refining our performance skills together to create the space for ‘Our Mineral Futures’ to unfold. Some movement experience is required.
