WIND is a five-day movement & sound improvisation practice. In this workshop we’d like to let us think about the wind, to be precise, the natural movement of the earth’s atmosphere. What we hear as a sound or music are vibration in the air. Listen to the air that exists outside and inside our body, we shall re-experience the sensation of the wind and the calm in our memory. We will go listening, voicing, movement practice into group improvisation (voice, sound and movement). To visualize the wind in a space, practice of the Mai-ohgi, the Japanese folding dance fan also be shared. The folding fan will inspire our movement to play with the force of gravity and air resistance. We’ll apply this awareness of vibration in the air and physical sensation of the air resistance and gravity, exploring the image of wind & calm in improvisation.
Accessibility Note:
The workshop will be held in English; clarifications and questions can be asked in German or Japanese. It is open to movers, dancers, performers and performance lovers. We will work exclusively with live music, sound in space, our voices and silence. How do we listen? Throughout the workshop we will observe our individual perceptions and interpretations of sound and movement. There will be small group improvisations. Touching is not obligatory. In order to improvise freely, physical and vocal warm-up exercises will be offered without the need to memorise phrases.
