Warp Renderings

Performance · Premiere by Sergiu Matis
In the frame of FEMINIST FUTURES WEEKEND

Tickets
In this new solo work, Sergiu Matis explores how aestheticised images of landscapes have distorted contemporary society’s relationship to the natural world – from European landscape painting traditions to photography, satellite imagery, CGI and virtual reality.

«Warp Renderings» proposes different ways to access the natural environment, by revisiting and investigating the ideological twists that it has been subjected to in the past. These distortions are exaggerated to the point of rupture, cracking and warping the canvas and the screen, and creating fissures in the body, making it permeable and able to resonate with the natural elements it represents.

Perhaps through this breaking of traditions – this conceptual vandalism – we can repair and restore our connection with nature, allowing it to spill back at us, or at least, back into the dancing body.
