Precarious Carnality

Performance-Projekt with Nicola Mascia

Physicality appears to be predominantly shifted to plane voyeurism of perfectly retouched body images, to caressing communication devices but barely touching the matter. Confidence of self-expression is safely curated and locked behind screens rather than developed through social physical interaction. The corporal seems detached from the interaction of physical senses. Contemporary conditions of physical presence are increasingly influenced by unreality.

Starting from this reflection, Precarious Carnality aims to return to the body itself as primal material and source of experiencing the presence. It is an invitation to absolute refusal of technological hideouts to rediscover the pure body as vehicle of communication in space, with and within other bodies.

Through specifically designed tasks to generate movement vocabulary and choreographic scores to reconnect to the deep expressing capability of the body, Precarious Carnality seeks to empower the present body anew. Embracing imperfection, radicalizing fragility, multiplicity and vulnerability, the project will search for and practice sensorial alternatives, intentional tactility and carnal wisdom utilizing non-conforming corporal tools.

Within this framework, a collectively created choreographic structure will be composed, encouraging individual language to blossom and co–exist within the group.

An ode to the uncertainty of the flesh.

Additionally there is a Contact Contemporary class with Nicola Mascia from 19.02. – 27.03.2024 | Mon & Wed 18:15-19:45
The class is a guided movement practice, aiming to awake and stimulate higher sensorial awareness. A constant flow of instructions will be interpreted and embodied by each of the participants. Specific principles, textures, images and states will be gradually introduced and overlaid to expand availability and malleability of both body and mind. The practice builds up from individual self-discovery, to partnering, to more elaborate and complex group dynamics. By encouraged risk taking, corporeal weight and physical forces will be activated to reach and overcome exhaustion, master endurance and engage in contact improvisation strategies.
