Embodied Embryology – Fluid Spaces

Workshop with Olive Bieringa
In the frame of WinterTanz 2023/24

We will research how embodied embryological knowledge can grow a dance that transforms the way we experience our own bodies/selves/environment. We will use touch and movement as a doorway into our embryological history. Embryogenesis is an adventure we all undertook to become who we are. The first eight weeks after conception is when our body forms its basic structure. In this period, we transform from a fertilized egg into two cells that multiply into a cluster of cells, which develop into a series of fluid spaces that become a highly differentiated human being. These fluid spaces and processes underlie our current structure and inform our current state of being. This is a somatic workshop combined with an action-oriented artistic research of recovering the potential space of the embryo that has yet to be lived, in each of us.

Additional note: If you have been part of “A Collection of Fluid Spaces”, a radical embryology laboratory initiated by Otto Ramstad & Olive Bierigna, you are warmly invited to join the Cohort Meet-Up before the workshop weekend on Friday, Jan. 5th from 10-17h at Tanzfabrik, Studio 2! In case you haven’t been part but are interested in their work, you can find out more here or write them under: everybody@bodycartography.org

Accessibility Note
The workshop will be held in English spoken language. The work will take place both lying down and sitting with eyes closed, and standing and moving around the room. There will also be partner work with optional touching. Verbal exchange and discussion will also be an important part of the workshop. If needed, a free workshop space for an accompanying assistant will be facilitated for participants with disabilities. Information about our location & studio access in Kreuzberg, which unfortunately are not wheelchair accessible, can be found here. For questions or more information, please contact Zoé Duflot & Elisabeth Leopold at workshop@tanzfabrik-berlin.de.
