The atelier refers to a pedagogical approach that appreciates the rehearsal space as a place of experimentation and craft. It considers the dance studio as a workshop where participants learn, practice and improve their technique and craftsmanship to find their creative identity. The methodology is based on the compositional factors of dance according to Jean Cébron (1927-2019), a dancer, choreographer and educator: energy, form, space and rhythm. Much of the class is inspired by the Jooss-Leeder method. The focus is on breathing, repetition and opposing directional forces, taking into account the different needs and circumstances of the group. At the end of the training, a sequence is elaborated integrating the knowledge acquired during the workshop. Composition and improvisation exercises later open a dialogue with the individual artists.
Accessibility Note
The workshop will be conducted in spoken English, but questions and explanations are also possible in German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. The movement exercises require improvisation and a set movement vocabulary, coordination and memory skills, and a strong background in contemporary dance technique. The instructor, with the intention of connecting participants with their unique expressions and creative potential, goes beyond physical skills to foster a deeper awareness of personal limitations and how to overcome them. Information about our location & studio access in Kreuzberg, which unfortunately are not wheelchair accessible, can be found
