Practicing Dance Together #2

Dancing with Aleksandra Janeva Imfeld
In the frame of TO KEEP IN TOUCH ...

The dots: A Movement Research Practice

Based on the principles of improvisational movement research, "the dots" is a practice that aims to raise awareness of and dismantle (or break with) habitual forms, patterns, and rhythms of bodily organization. Allowing the unexpected to integrate and reshape our sense of physical unity will help us do this.
In this session, we will explore simple ideas such as focusing our attention on a very precise "point" in our body that triggers movement. In addition, the practice is very much based on trust – any kind of decision made during improvisation is "good" and will be accepted without evaluation. In a mode of observation, impulses are used for the next decision-making processes and a dialogue between body action, information and reaction is established that quickly builds on each other.

Aleksandra Janeva Imfeld

Aleksandra Janeva Imfeld was born in Macedonia and moved to Croatia at an early age. She graduated from the School for contemporary dance Ana Maletic in Zagreb and studied dance in Bruges and Lier in Belgium. In 1998 she was a DanceWEB scholarship student in Vienna as well as in New York a scholarship student in The Jennifer Muller Company. In 2012 she completed the postgraduate program a.pass (Advanced Performance and Scenography Study) in Brussels, where she developed a working method "the connector" for collective authorship, which she uses in all her work since then. Aleksandra was a close associate of BADco from Zagreb. She worked as a performer with Ismael Ivo, Anna Mondini, The System Castafiore, Brice Leroux, David Hernandez and many others. As a choreographer she collaborated with the majority of companies and collectives in Croatia. She is one of the co-founders of Nomad Dance Academy and Nomad Dance Academy Croatia. With the movement research method "the dots” she is a guest teacher at SNDO /Amsterdam, ISAC/Brussels and Dance Academy/Zagreb. New inspiration complementary to her physical practice is painting murals and editing videos/dance related movies.
