To close the first week of SommerTanz, we invite you all to join us for a talk with the workshop facilitators. Moderated by Noa Winter, the conversation will deal with questions of sharing practices around dance, choreography and movement. What can mediation in dance look like that softens the hierarchy of learning and teaching while creating spaces for knowledge production through sharing? How can anti-ableist, feminist and decolonial spaces of sharing emerge? And what role does individually embodied and collectively experienced crip knowledge play in the creation of these spaces (whether in the form of workshops, performances, lectures or other formats)?

Notes on Accessibility
The talk will take place in the Uferstudios in Berlin Wedding, in Studio 5. It is accessible without steps, but has a raised wooden floor area, which is accessible via a 1.5% sloping feeder ramp. A barrier-free WC with shower (2.6 m x 2.1 m) is located in the foyer of studios 3, 4 and 5 and can be accessed without steps. The door width of the respective sanitary facilities is 0.95 m. Information on how to get there and precise directions ↪ here. The hygiene measures in force at the time will be observed, there will be regular ventilation during all breaks, we ask all people to come tested to the event and we provide FFP2 masks if necessary. Alternate seating will be available and you can always leave and re-enter the room. Participation is free of charge for all and without registration. The talk will take place in English spoken language with simultaneous translation in German Sign Language. For further questions and needs, please contact Zoé Duflot & Elisabeth Leopold at workshop@tanzfabrik-berlin.de.

Claire Cunningham

Claire Cunningham is a performer and creator of multi-disciplinary performance based in Glasgow, Scotland. One of the UK’s most acclaimed and internationally renowned disabled artists, Cunningham’s work is rooted in the study and use/misuse of her crutches and the exploration of the potential of her own specific physicality. This runs alongside a deep interest in the lived experience of disability and its implications not only as a choreographer but also in terms of societal notions of knowledge, value, connection and interdependence. www.clairecunningham.co.uk

Carolin Hartmann

Carolin Hartmann is a Berlin-based trained yoga teacher, performer, and writer. As a dancer and artist, she deals with the mental part of movement, the poetry between body and mind. Due to her neurological disease, she quit her work as a lawyer in 2011 and made the communication between body and mind her life's work. carolinhartmann.com

Tanja Erhart

Tanja Erhart (she/her), born in Austria based in London, describes herself as a white, queer and crip – disabled and chronically ill – dance artist, pleasure and disability justice activist. In her practices Tanja is curious about moving with different bodyminds and assistive tools, exploring the vastness of aesthetics of access in dance, implementing access riders in the art industry and dismantling oppressive structures of ableism through centring access and care, needs and desires of D/deaf, Disabled, neurodiverse and chronically ill artists and audiences. She performs, choreographs and teaches internationally. Her collaborators include Sarah Blanc, Candoco Dance Company, Claire Cunningham Projects, Farah Saleh, Michael Turinsky etc. In 2022, together with Katharina Senk, she premiered her interactive dance piece and film j_e_n_g_a.

Anajara Amarante

Anajara Amarante is a chronically ill queer Brazilian artist living and working in Berlin. Anajara's main working tool is the moving body, intertwining her professional interests with the personal and political: queer, dissident bodies, marginalized communities and art practices. The focus of her artistic practice is in the performing arts (emphasis on choreography) and also feeds on her background as a biologist and communication scientist. As a Brazilian living in Europe, Anajara is interested in people of migrant background, the construction of identities and postcolonialism, as well as the construction of joy, inclusion and diversity. As a performer, choreographer, curator, lecturer, and speaker, Anajara has been part of numerous important festivals, congresses, and events, collaborating with Sophiensälen, Uferstudios, Goethe Institut, Maxim Gorki Theater, Tanzkongress, among others. Recent works include: Decolonization Praxis and the Art of Talking Disability (22021/022); Butching Cowboys (2022); The Body as a Territory: identity, heritage and cultural violence (2021).

Noa Winter

Noa Winter (they/them) is a curator, dramaturg and access consultant. Since 2020, they are co-leading Making a Difference, a network supporting disabled, Deaf and chronically ill artists to produce their own work. Moving between dramaturgy, curation and empowering community work, they focus on anti-ableist practices and Aesthetics of Access, especially the artistic development of Relaxed Performances. In September 2022, the festival Queering the Crip, Cripping the Queer curated by Winter took place at Sophiensæle. Currently, they are working as a dramaturg with artists such as Liz Rosenfeld (URSA-X, Premiere: April 2023) and Rita Mazza (Matters of Rhythm, Premiere: May 2023).
