Invitation To Attend (Waiting List)

Workshop with Claire Cunningham
In the frame of SommerTanz 2023

Our workshop days from the first part of Sommer Tanz 2023 from July 20-23 will take place at the Uferstudios in Wedding and in cooperation with our network Making a Difference.
In the workshop Invitation to Attend, Claire will share methods and scores central to her work, opening up dialogues about where her choreographic practice based on attending/attention and perception, and practices learned from normative-bodied artists, meets with concepts of Crip politics – such as Crip time – and the phenomenology/lived experience of disability.

Through talking, moving, watching, listening and documenting in a manner accessible to each participant, you will engage in tasks looking at: attending to our own attention; the connection between movement and language; communication and consent; and the potential within these scores in gaining ownership (or re-ownership) over our bodies and for new modes of noticing, moving and improvising.

Accessibility Note
This workshop is open to people of diverse physicalities and sensory modalities with some experience with dance, movement, or performance. The work will use structured improvisation and allows everyone to engage at their own chosen levels of energy, pace and scale of movement. Participants will be free to rest as required, and to come and go as they need. It will be held in spoken English. There will be an element of talking and discussion in the workshop. Any touching in the workshop will be done with consent built into the task. Support workers are encouraged to join the workshop but this is not essential and decided in dialogue with the participant. Claire may use music and sound in the workshop.

The workshop will take place in the Uferstudios in Berlin Wedding, in Studio 4. It is completely at ground level and therefore accessible without steps. A barrier-free WC with shower (2.6 m x 2.1 m) is located in the foyer of studios 3, 4 and 5 and can be accessed without steps. The door width of the respective sanitary facilities is 0.95 m. Information on how to get there and precise directions  ↪ hier. Hygiene measures in place at the time will be followed, regular ventilation will be provided during all breaks, and we will have Covid19 testing available. During the lunch break there will be the possibility to eat in a café at the courtyard of the Uferstudios about 200m away from the studios or bring your own food. The dance studios are accessible throughout and are available with beanbags, mats and blankets as a place to rest during the lunch break. If needed, a free workshop space for an accompanying assistant will be facilitated for participants. Please let us know your accessibility needs in advance. To register and communicate details regarding your access needs, please contact Zoé Duflot & Elisabeth Leopold at workshop@tanzfabrik-berlin.de. If you have any questions, please write to us as well!

Claire Cunningham

Claire Cunningham is a performer and creator of multi-disciplinary performance based in Glasgow, Scotland. One of the UK’s most acclaimed and internationally renowned disabled artists, Cunningham’s work is rooted in the study and use/misuse of her crutches and the exploration of the potential of her own specific physicality. This runs alongside a deep interest in the lived experience of disability and its implications not only as a choreographer but also in terms of societal notions of knowledge, value, connection and interdependence. www.clairecunningham.co.uk
