Rasha Will Dismantle The Master's House

Feminist School - Workshop by Anguezomo Mba Bikoro
In the frame of FEMINIST FUTURES FESTIVAL

Join
Based on materials from the Mohammed Amin Foundation Nairobi and Potsdam Film Archives Berlin, Anguezomo proposes critical observations on relations between somatic body, recovery and archival research as tools to create systems/networks of empowerment notably on Black womens’ narratives. With this work comes challenges of accessibility to archive spaces that claim to be accessible to all; those who are entitled to tell the stories and edit which ones can remain. Looking into those archives, the session examines stories and the conflict of archival practice as tools to remember, erase and edit. In numerous archive materials we meet our own protagonists missing in those stories, that of Rasha the Black Dove and Emine Zehra Zinzer. Our protagonists counter-response through ghostly fabulations and testimony whose images surfaced in UFA Film Studios, Bauhaus and Die Brücke Painters’ movement.

How do those edits come at the intersections of Black womens’ anti-apartheid struggle and liberation? The impact of the erasure of these stories must be seen as a possibility to re-invent colonial fictions as ways of rest, self-care and self-preservation.

Through collective exercises on somatic practice, the workshop invites collective performing rituals by retracing these archival erasures as forms for possible fabulations and para-fictions, revolt and interactions through creative somatic care. Looking at ways in which memory can be performed, the impact of the sonic on transformational justice, the significance of Black feminist empowerment in storytelling, and the transformational functions of archival practice in education and mental health. The session gives a deeper insight into Mba Bikoro’s personal practice and meditations with exercises in performing the gaps and ancestral healing.

Anguezomo Mba Bikoro

Anguezomo Mba Bikoro’s visual and text work analyses processes of power and science fictions in historical archives that critically engage in migrational struggles and colonial memory, focusing on queer indigenous and Black feminist biopolitics central to the practice of ancestral healing. Their work complicates linear readings and representations of histories pursuing parafiction as a radical black feminist strategy to disrupt the notion of a single authorial voice. Sedimented in narratives are testimonies of sonic nature archives, queering ecologies and postcolonial black radical feminist experiences towards new monuments, reacting to the different tones of societies shared between delusions & ritual. They bring new investigations about the architectures of racisms in cities, the archeologies of urban spaces & economies of tradition systems by exposing the limitations of technologies as functional memory records. Anguezomo has developed frameworks of rituals and healing in performance work that often reveal the entangled colonial histories of migration at site-specific spaces to dismantle prejudices and build independent emancipatory tools for liberation, education & repair. Anguezomo is artistic director of Squat Museum in Gabon (2008), a mobile museum and performing archive, and Nyabinghi_Lab Collective (2020; non-profit) and of “When The Jackal Leaves The Sun: Decentering Restitution|Pedagogies of Repossession”. Their work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions and Biennales including the Dak’art Biennale (2012, 2018), Venice Biennale (2016), La Otra Bienal, Bogota (2013), and RAVY Biennale, Yaoundé (2018).
