Infinite Time

Performance Project – Summer Special with Enrico Paglialunga

This project explores the notions of 'time and speed' in choreographic composition and how it influences performance practice. Speed and time are bound to each other. Speed affects time and time affects speed. How do time and speed affect a choreographic sequence and how do we shape it?

In music, raising the speed changes the pitch, whereas 'tempo' simply squeezes the same piece of music into a shorter time frame without changing the pitch. In my choreographic practice, I often experiment with the effects of speed on the body, observing the limit of speed or slowness that it can sustain without distorting the steps ("pitch") and compromising the quality of the movement. Speeding up or slowing down the movement changes the form as well as the emotional-visual impact of the choreography and thus also influences the quality and musicality of the movement.

In this project we create and learn choreographic material from which short solos are created. Later in the process we playfully reshape this choreographic material, depending on the speed (slow-medium-fast). I am curious to explore together the infinite possibilities of performing the same choreography in a loop by only changing the tempo. In this kinetic challenge, precision and a deep understanding of movement play a fundamental role in achieving a virtuosic and sophisticated dance language. In addition, the personality of each individual dancer is highlighted.

This project is open to professional dancers, students and amateurs with a dance background who feel the urge to create, push mind and body to the limits and acquire new skills.
