Performance · Premiere by July Weber

Usually nothing can be lastingly changed in the theater, as the following productions need to find the space always in the same conditions. In «la isla bonita» we look at possibilities of impacting the architecture of the theater through bodies and imagination. Understanding the theater also as a body and a counterpart, the performers play with the poetic potential of its logistics. Therefore they work mainly with what is already there -  from technical equipment to the trash containers. Investigating into different states of euphoria they analyze their physicality, gestures and group dynamics in order to make them useful for dance and choreography. Harvesting and surfing on each other energies they explore the performative potential of the uncontrollable, destructive and excessive in dance. While playfulness collides with formality, destruction is not only understood as something negative but also as a possibility for new things to emerge.

July Weber

July Weber (all pronouns) is a choreographer/dancer, visual artist and set designer. July Weber studied sculpture at the HBK Braunschweig and at the Academy of Arts Vienna as well as choreography at the HZT Berlin and at the Theaterschool in Amsterdam. Weber's work deals with spaces of interaction between body, material and movement and moves at the intersection of visual art and performance. In 2020 July Weber founded NEW FEARS - a gallery for dance and performance in Berlin Wedding.

Further Biographies

↪ Juan Pablo Cámara is a choreographer and performer from Argentina, currently living in Europe. He began his training in dance and theater in Buenos Aires, where he also worked as an actor and performer. In 2017, he graduated from the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam.  In his choreographic research he deals with contemporary problems such as artificiality, construction of identity and dis{}embodiment to reflect on the precariousness of cultural and social constructs. His work has been shown in Buenos Aires, Vienna, Madrid, Lisbon and Poland, among other places. He dances and performs for choreographers such as Jefta van Dinther, Michele Rizzo, Adam Linder, Kat Valastur, Philipp Gehmacher, among others.

↪ Rachell Bo Clark is a dancer from Melbourne Australia, living in Berlin. Rachell studied dance at the Victorian College of the Arts before moving to Europe in 2014, where she has established herself as a performer, artist and teacher. Inspired by the connective possibilities of dance, and the friendships, intimacy and community it builds, Rachell continues to collaborate and perform with choreographers Sebastian Matthias, Ursina Tossi, Emmilou Rößling, Colette Sadler and Visual Artist Rachel Monosov, among others. In 2017 Rachell was part of the DanceWEB scholarship program, proudly supported by the Tanja Liedtke Foundation.

↪ Judith Förster
is dancer, choreographer and set/costume designer living in Berlin. In her recent collaborations she worked with André Uerba, Omsk Social Club, Renae Shadler and Julian Weber. Her own works are situated on the shore of dance and visual arts and lately she is tapping into video art in collaboration with Stella Horta (“showdown” and “handle with care”, 2021). Her research revolves around fractalized narration, liminality and intimacy as well as femistist sci-fi literature and future crafts. Her latest works have been shown at Feldfünf Gallery, Tanztage/Sophiensaele and Vierte Welt.

Obsessed with the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk, Liina Magnea combines music, movement and video/internet aesthetics in her shapeshifting body. Her works have been shown i.a. at KW Institute for Contemporary Arts, Uferstudios, Kunsthaus NRW, Griessmühle. She also releases music under the name ‘Magnea’ and works as a film dramaturge. She gives vocal coachings for the Icelandic choir in Berlin and helps people suffering from addiction.

↪ Lyllie Rouvière is a choreographer and performer. In 2010 she graduated in architecture at École nationale superiérieure d'architecture de Paris-La-Villette and in 2017 in "Dance, Context, Choreography" at the Hochschulübergreifenden Zentrum für Tanz Berlin (HZT). Lyllie locates her research at the intersection of Spaces and Bodies to initiate encounters. Her recent works include: Esprit 2019, Perineum 2019, Air-conditioning 2018, and Un peu de romantisme-1-2 2018-2017. She is part of the collectives suddenly and psychedelic choir. She is currently collaborating with artist Moran Sanderovich and violinist/performer Anna Faber. She performs for artists such as André Uerba, Doris Uhlich and Julian Weber.

↪ Karol Tymiński is a Polish choreographer/performer based in Berlin, co-founder of Center in Motion - Choreographers Workspace in Warsaw. He graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in year 2006 and previously from Warsaw Ballet School. Tymiński in his works deviates from formal aspects and focuses on the explorations of the human body on the very physical level, making it the source of the choreographic material. He aims to speak about human condition, reaching the emotional side of the performer by penetrating his physicality what was demonstrated in his earlier pieces such as „Doll House” (2011) „Beep” (2013) „Pussy” (2014) „Liminal” (2015) - commissioned by Icelandic Dance Company or „This is a musical” (2015).
