Before the Golden Game

Piece in Progress by Claire Vivianne Sobottke, Tian Rotteveel
In the frame of Open Spaces #2-2014

“before the golden game“ is a catapult into the untamed spaces of childhood and the body of desire. It explores the body as tumultuous process, driven by raw desires and sensations, constantly pulled into various directions, a body not stable, but a becoming. It‘s mind starts from “wilderness“, where the laws of categorizing things in “good” or „bad“ are not of any importance. A trespassing on unmapped land, its time for the children to occupy the theatre.

Concept: Claire Vivianne Sobottke | Performance, choreography: Claire Vivianne Sobottke, Tian Rotteveel | Music: Tian Rotteveel | A collaboration with Claire Vivianne Sobottke and Tian Rotteveel, supported by Senatskanzlei für kulturelle Angelegenheiten der Stadt Berlin. With kind support of Tanzfabrik Berlin and Tanztage Berlin.

Claire Vivianne Sobottke

Claire Vivianne Sobottke defines her work as a place of resistance, where norms of seeing and thinking can be challenged. She graduated in acting from UdK Berlin, but quickly began to work as performer and dancemaker. In 2013, she received a danceWEB scholarship at Impulstanz Festival in Vienna. In 2014/15, she created “golden game” together with Tian Rotteveel. Dealing with the idea of the “untamed,“ this piece uses the explosive states and bodies of children as a passage into wilderness. By defining the voice, in its different states of singing and speaking as a source for movement, she will create her new solo “strange songs” in 2016 (Tanzhaus Zürich / Pact Zollverein). In 2016, Claire founded “Amazonas,” an interdisciplinary platform to support young female artists in Berlin, and is creating a personal interpretation of Mary Wigman’s “Witch Dance.” She has collaborated with artists including Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, Tino Sehgal, Tian Rotteveel, Karol Tyminski, Institutet, Christoph Winkler, Theo Solink, Miriam Horwitz, Gaëtan Rusquet, Johannes Schmit, Jule Flierl.

Tian Rotteveel

Tian Rotteveel (1984) studied music composition at the Royal Conservatory of Holland and currently studying choreography and dance at HZT in Berlin where he commits to the practice of movement, sound and language as one intertwined practice. Sound and movement in his work are processes what can materialize into meaning but also in just sheer sensation, opening undefined spaces. The work Soulsqueezing (2011) has toured extensively and has been presented internationally over more then 10 countries in Europe. Tian has been working with MAE- Chamber Ensemble, Rosa Ensemble, David Hernandez, Igor Dobricic, Diego Gil, Lea Martini, David Zambrano, Jeremy Wade, Tino Sehgal, Michael Schumacher, Liat Waysbort, and others. And have been teaching voice movement research workshops to SEAD dance academy, Meg Stuarts/Damaged Goods, Dampfzentrale Bern, Antistatic Festival Sofia, Plezna Izba Maribor Slovenia and others.
