Lukas Malkowski is a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult), Dance Artist, choreographer, Aquarius, and avid cyclist from Toronto, Canada. Attaining his BFA in Dance Performance at Ryerson University, he was the recipient Canada’s 2015 Hnatyshyn Foundation Developing Artist Grant for Contemporary Dance. He has worked with Staatsballett Berlin, Sasha Waltz, Toronto Dance Theatre, Jasmine Ellis, Diane Borsato, Adelheid, Mocean Dance, Naishi Wang and Deaf Spectrum. He has performed at the Rodeo Festival(Munich), Holland Dance Festival, Cervantino Festival(Mexico). Lukas has performed the works of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Maxine Doyle, at the Banff Centre, and SpringboardDanseMontreal. Lukas’s choreography is shaped by embodiment, physics, and languages. I believe embodiment. His teaching practice is driven by social dialogue and physics embodiment using sight and touch. His contact practice with Dana Pajarillaga deals with interrelation, compassion, and non-hierarchical partnering technologies. He has taught in Toronto, Halifax, Kassel, Berlin, and Mexico City. He is currently developing his solo installation, Momentum Contingency, for film and public space dissemination.
